This podcast highlights Indigenous ways of being and social work practice. Dr. Raven Sinclair interviews the two hosts of 2 Crees in a Pod on their experiences of grief. They highlight the fact that many Indigenous people have complex grief, but they frame this grief as resilience. They talk about grief as a journey back to the ancestors, an opportunity to be creative and tap into one’s emotional side and cry, and to connect with other community members and laugh, something which has been a medicine for a very long time for Indigenous people. However, they stress that everyone has their own way of grieving, so as social workers and helpers we need to help draw out those resources in people when they are grieving and hold space. The podcast also touches on the importance of trauma-informed approaches when teaching people about this grief or working with them. The two hosts use their work as an example where they educated government, leadership, and educators on how to use the approach.
